Triumph expands 400cc lineup with new Bonneville T40 twins

Triumph Motorcycles is expanding its 400cc lineup with the new Bonneville T40 and T40 Black, bringing the iconic Bonneville name to the platform with classic styling and modern technology.

The new models will start reaching Triumph dealerships in India from the second week of November, with prices starting at INR 254,999, or roughly PHP 166,000. India is also home to Triumph’s 400cc motorcycle production through its partnership with Bajaj Auto, which manufactures the jointly developed models at its Chakan plant.

Both motorcycles retain the familiar Bonneville silhouette, with a sculpted teardrop fuel tank, round LED headlight, spoked wheels, twin rear shocks, longer mudguards, and a peashooter-style silencer. Heritage-inspired two-tone paint schemes, hand-painted coach lining, and brushed aluminum engine covers add to the classic look.

The T40 comes in Aegean Blue and Fusion White, Meriden Blue and Tangerine Orange, and New England White and Jet Black. The T40 Black gets a darker treatment in Matt Pewter Grey and Matt Phantom Black, along with blacked-out engine casings, exhaust components, and other finishes.

Power comes from Triumph’s liquid-cooled 400cc TR Series single-cylinder engine. A revised cylinder head and Bonneville-specific tune produce 32 PS at 7,000 rpm and 36 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm, with the engine tuned for stronger low-end response and a relaxed power delivery.

Models destined for international markets get a 4-inch full-color round TFT display with an analogue-style Heritage Mode, smartphone connectivity, full-map navigation through the Triumph Navigation App, phone and music controls, and customizable widgets.

There are five riding modes: Road, Rain, Eco, and two customizable settings. Cruise control, lean-sensitive Cornering ABS, and Cornering Traction Control also come as standard.

The bikes use an upright riding position, dedicated suspension setup, lightweight aluminum rims, and a 790mm seat height. An accessory low seat reduces this to 770mm, while claimed ready-to-ride weight is 191kg.

Standard equipment also includes full LED lighting, self-cancelling signal lights, Emergency Deceleration Warning, a USB-C charging socket, and a center stand.

The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black join Triumph’s 400cc family, which includes the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Tracker 400, and Thruxton 400. Triumph says the platform has sold more than 60,000 motorcycles across over 50 countries.

The official Philippine launch date, availability, and pricing have yet to be announced by Triumph Motorcycles Philippines.
