New 400cc Norton Motorcycles from TVS coming soon
TVS Motor Company is set to breathe new life into the iconic British brand, Norton Motorcycles, with a range of new models, starting with 300cc to 400cc modern retro motorcycles. This move marks TVS’s entry into the competitive premium modern retro motorcycle segment.
In 2020, TVS acquired Norton, rescuing the British firm from its financial troubles. TVS has since invested heavily in developing new models, aiming to leverage Norton’s rich heritage and racing pedigree. Norton has a long and storied history dating back to 1898. The brand is famous for motorcycles such as the Commando and Manx and a strong racing tradition with numerous Isle of Man TT victories.
The first of these new Norton bikes, co-developed with TVS, is expected to hit the market within the next three years.
According to sources, the new expressways-legal motorcycles (in the Philippines) will feature a 300cc to 400cc engine based on TVS’s new 300cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder platform. The good news is that this engine is designed to be modular and scalable—meaning future plug-and-play components could “upgrade” the engine up to 500cc in future models.
The motorcycle will be built around a new frame and is aimed at competing with popular models like the Royal Enfield’s Hunter 350 and Guerrilla 450, and the Triumph Speed/Scrambler 400.
TVS is said to be planning to manufacture these entry-level Norton bikes in India and export them to global markets, which may include the Philippines.
TVS also produces BMW Motorrad’s entry-level G 310 R and G 310 GS models at its state-of-the-art facility in Hosur, India.
