Honda launches its new CB1000 GT at EICMA
Honda has expanded its sports-touring lineup with the launch of the CB1000 GT, which blends the performance of its CB1000 Hornet (which is the detuned, naked bike version of the CBR1000RR Fireblade) platform with enhanced touring comfort and advanced rider technology. With this launch, the message is clear: the CB1000 GT wants to compete with the BMW S1000 XR, Kawasaki Ninja 1000, and Ducati Multistrada V4.
Fireblade DNA
Powering the CB1000 GT is the same (but detuned) 999 cc inline four-cylinder engine of the CBR1000RR Fireblade, delivering 152 PS at 11,000 rpm and 102 Nm of torque at 8,750 rpm, which, according to Honda, offers smooth, usable performance for both spirited rides and long-distance touring. With a wet weight of 229 kg, it is slightly lighter than the BMW S1000 XR at 244 kg, and comparable to the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX at 235 kg.
The steel twin-spar frame has been refined for touring stability, while Showa EERA semi-active suspension adapts damping for varied road conditions, rivalling the electronic suspension on the Multistrada V4. Braking is handled by dual 310 mm front discs with four-piston calipers and IMU-assisted Cornering ABS, paired with a 240 mm rear disc for precise stopping power.
Other touring-focused features include detachable panniers, heated grips, cruise control, a center stand, and a quick-shifter. A 5-inch TFT display with Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity and Honda Smart Key adds modern convenience, while a five-position adjustable windscreen and ergonomic seating enhance rider comfort on long journeys.
The new CB1000 GT will be offered in Grand Prix Red, Pearl Deep Mud Gray, and Graphite Black.
With its blend of high-performance engineering, advanced electronics, and touring-ready practicality, the new Honda CB1000 GT positions itself as a strong contender in Europe’s sport-touring segment, promising a versatile and refined ride that rivals the BMW S1000 XR and Ducati Multistrada V4—at least according to Honda.
