KTM and Luciano Benavides takes 2026 Dakar crown with a 2-second victory
This year’s Dakar Rally is arguably the most climactic in its history, with the overall victory decided by a razor-thin two-second margin. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Luciano Benavides clinched the win with a total time of 49:00:41, edging out Honda’s Ricky Brabec, who finished just two seconds behind at 49:00:43.
“I still can’t believe it. I never stopped dreaming. I woke up today full of energy and motivation, just thinking about what I could do and trusting in myself, and that was the key for this Dakar. I did this for myself, and this feeling is unreal. To win by just two seconds is unbelievable. I even missed the last two corners and nearly crashed, so it was right on the limit, but it paid off. I honestly can’t describe this moment,” said the 9-time Dakar Rally racer, Benavides.
According to KTM, Benavides delivered a standout performance throughout the rally, combining outright speed, consistency, and disciplined race management to remain in contention for overall victory until the final stage. The Argentine rider secured three stage wins, including a crucial triumph in the event’s opening marathon stage, and consistently ran at the front as conditions grew increasingly demanding. By maintaining his attack through to the final day, Benavides sealed his Dakar Rally victory, which is the most significant achievement of his career to date.
