New R 12 G/S named 2025 BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy competition bike

The BMW R 12 G/S has been officially chosen as the competition bike for the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2026. This new model, which draws its authentic design from the legendary BMW R 80 G/S, is a classic enduro engineered for pure riding fun on and off the road.

The abbreviation G/S, which stands for “off-road (Gelände) / road (Strasse),” perfectly encapsulates the bike’s dual-purpose capability. With a high-torque boxer engine and a durable shaft drive, the R 12 G/S is well-equipped to handle the demanding terrain that awaits competitors.

The GS Trophy 2026 will take place in Romania—home of the world’s toughest enduro race, the Red Bull Romaniacs—a country known for its stunning natural beauty and challenging off-road landscape. Competitors will face dense forests, rocky paths, and steep ascents as they navigate the Carpathian Mountains. The event will serve as an ultimate proving ground for the R 12 G/S, demonstrating the long history of success for BMW's boxer engine in off-road motorsport.

Qualifying rounds for the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy 2026 have been confirmed for several countries and regions, including Australia, China, Germany, India, Japan, South Korea, and Ukraine. Additionally, an international qualifying event for riders from other countries will take place in October 2025 at the BMW Motorrad Enduro Park.
