Late fees waived by LTO for those due on July 21 and 25
Last week, millions of Filipinos faced heavy rains and widespread flooding as typhoons intensified the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
In a move to provide assistance to those affected by recent weather disturbances, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced a waiver on fines for late vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal.
In a memorandum signed by acting Assistant Secretary, Atty. Greg Pua, Jr., the waiver covers weekly surcharges for late motor vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal that were due from July 21 to 25. The validity of registrations and licenses within this period has also been extended to August 8, 2025.
The LTO will also apply this waiver to new motor vehicles, including motorcycles, purchased between July 21 and 25. The 7-day period for registering these new vehicles will officially begin on August 8, 2025, to prevent penalties for late registration.
To further extend assistance, the 15-day period for settling traffic apprehension cases dated between July 21 and 25 has also been extended. The new deadline for settling these fines without penalty is likewise set for August 8, 2025.
The memorandum cited three successive weather disturbances—“Crising,” “Dante,” and “Emong”—which, along with the southwest monsoon (Habagat), caused widespread flooding and affected more than 2.7 million people across Luzon and other parts of the country.
LTO Chief back in office
Meanwhile, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II, has returned to work following his medical leave. Mendoza underwent a heart bypass procedure on July 7.
On his first day back, Mendoza immediately convened the Executive Committee to get updates on the agency’s projects and initiatives. LTO said that the discussions centered on recently launched systems such as the LTOTracker, Online Driver’s License Renewal System (through eGov), and Plate Registration Management Information System (PRMIS), all aimed at enhancing transparency, digitalization, and service efficiency.
Mendoza also discussed enforcement operations with the Law Enforcement Service to ensure the continuous implementation of traffic laws and to maintain road safety.
The meeting also focused on the current status of the backlog license plate distribution, a key priority under the leadership of Mendoza and Executive Director Atty. Greg Pua Jr.
Mendoza commended the entire LTO family, after President Bongbong Marcos Jr., recognized the agency’s success in resolving the license plate backlog during his 2025 SONA, attributing the achievement to their collective efforts.
