MotoGP Aragón Grand Prix claimed by Marc Márquez and Ducati
Marc Márquez claimed victory at MotorLand Aragón on Sunday, leading a strong performance for the Ducati Lenovo Team. His win followed a notable achievement of topping every session of the Grand Prix weekend, a feat Márquez last accomplished in 2015.
Alex Márquez, riding a Desmosedici GP machine for Gresini Racing Team, finished second, and Francesco Bagnaia of the Ducati Lenovo Team secured third place, resulting in 1-2-3 podium for the Italian brand.
“Today, with a good start, I managed to put together the type of race I wanted, as I could push harder when I felt like I could do it. I felt comfortable and could ride well. These are the type of races in which – if you want to fight for the title – it is crucial to ensure the best possible result without making mistakes, because as we saw today, both Alex and Pecco were very competitive. It was the perfect weekend: I got back the feeling I had before Silverstone and I hope we can continue this way at Mugello,” said Marc Márquez.
Marc Márquez started from pole position and gained an early lead, then extended it during the middle phase of the 23-lap race with a series of fast laps. He became the first rider to break the 1’47secs barrier during a race at the Spanish circuit. Teammate Francesco Bagnaia moved up a position at the start and remained in contention for second place until the final stages of the race.
Following this event, Marc Márquez has extended his lead in the championship standings to 223 points, 32 points ahead of Alex Márquez. Francesco Bagnaia holds third place, 93 points behind the leader. The Ducati Lenovo Team maintains its position at the top of the teams’ standings with 373 points, and Ducati continues to lead the manufacturers’ classification with 282 points.
The Ducati Lenovo Team is scheduled to participate in a one-day official test at Aragón. The ninth Grand Prix of the season will then take place on June 20th at the Mugello International Circuit.
