MC Lane back, MC ban on EDSA underpasses, flyovers
To mitigate the anticipated ‘carmageddon’ from the two-year EDSA rehabilitation, which will begin on June 13, 2025, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has outlined its plans, among which is the reintroduction of the Motorcycle Lane (MC Lane). The MMDA’s reason: so that motorcycles can no longer filter through traffic and potentially cause an accident.
“Pwedeng maging shared yan [bike lane],” said MMDA Chairman, Atty. Don Artes, hinting that the existing bicycle lane would also serve as the MC Lane on the duration of the EDSA rehabilitation.

This also means that motorcycles will be prohibited from using underpasses and flyovers along EDSA.
“Para po huwag mag-liko liko yung ating mga motorsiklo, na magko-cause po ng accident, magko-cause ng slow down, gagawan po natin sila ng exclusive motorcycle lane sa kanan. Pero yun po ay idi-discuss pa namin ni Sec. Vince sa mga stakeholders.”
(So that our motorcycles won’t swerve in and out of traffic, which could cause accidents and slow down traffic flow, we will create an exclusive motorcycle lane for them on the right side. But that will still be discussed by me and Secretary Vince with the stakeholders.)
Artes also stated that motorcycles would be prohibited from passing through underpasses and flyovers. He explained that the lanes in EDSA would become narrower during the rehab.
Under the ‘No Contact Apprehension Policy’ (NCAP), which is now active, motorcycle riders on EDSA, including those in the MC Taxi and delivery sectors, will be required to stay within the confines of the MC Lane.
