2027 Kawasaki Versys 900 SE LT ABS packs 948cc inline-four, radar-based rider aids

The Kawasaki Versys has been one of the brand’s best-selling models for years, including here in the Philippines. For 2027, Kawasaki is expanding the lineup with the new Versys 900 SE LT ABS, a sport-tourer powered by a 948cc inline-four engine and equipped with radar-based rider assistance systems. Positioned between the Versys 650 and Versys 1100, the new model combines Z-series-derived performance with touring features and advanced electronic rider aids.

Radar-based rider assistance systems

The Versys 900 SE LT ABS is the first model in the Versys family to receive Kawasaki’s Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS). These include Adaptive Cruise Control Lite (ACC Lite), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and Blind Spot Detection (BSD), providing additional assistance on highways and in traffic.

ACC Lite uses a forward-facing radar sensor to monitor the vehicle ahead and adjust the throttle to maintain a selected following distance. Riders can choose between Near, Medium, and Far settings. Unlike the adaptive cruise control system on the Ninja H2 SX, however, ACC Lite cannot apply the brakes, leaving riders responsible for slowing down when traffic decelerates.

Forward Collision Warning alerts riders when the system detects a potential collision risk based on the motorcycle’s speed and distance from the vehicle ahead. Blind Spot Detection uses a rear-facing radar sensor to detect vehicles approaching in adjacent lanes, with warning lights integrated into the mirrors. These systems provide additional assistance but do not replace the need for riders to remain alert and in control.

948cc engine

Powering the Versys 900 is a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve, 948cc inline-four engine derived from Kawasaki’s Z-series platform. European specs list output at 122 PS at 9,500 rpm and 97.3 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm.

The engine is paired with a six-speed transmission and a bidirectional Kawasaki Quick Shifter for clutchless upshifts and downshifts. Electronic throttle valves support the integrated riding modes, while Kawasaki’s traction control and cornering management systems help regulate engine output and maintain stability.

The motorcycle uses a steel trellis frame, an aluminum swingarm, and adjustable long-travel suspension. It rides on 17-inch wheels at both ends, fitted with road-focused tires.

Braking hardware consists of dual 310mm front discs and a 260mm rear disc, supported by an IMU-enhanced anti-lock braking system. The Versys 900 also gets a 20-liter fuel tank.

Other features include hard side cases, heated grips, hand guards, LED fog lamps, an adjustable windscreen, and a center stand. A five-inch TFT display provides smartphone connectivity, navigation, and voice commands. The motorcycle also gets a height-adjustable seat, full LED lighting, and a USB Type-C charging port.
