NLEX declares toll holiday from Balintawak to Meycauayan
Just a quick recap: during the wee hours of Wednesday, March 19, a trailer carrying an oversized load exceeded the Marilao Interchange bridge’s vertical clearance limit, which then caused severe damage to the said bridge. This damage has led to lane closures and severe traffic congestion in the northbound lane of NLEX.
NLEX Corporation earlier announced that the repairs could take up to 3 weeks.
On Friday, March 21, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) stepped in, saying that 3 weeks repair time is not acceptable and NLEX should compensate motorists by at least offering FREE toll on the affected areas. The DOTr also demanded that additional lanes be opened to help mitigate the traffic congestion the incident has caused.
On Sunday, March 23, NLEX Corporation heeded the Transportation Department’s call. Starting today, March 24, the company has implemented a toll holiday from Balintawak to Meycauayan, which will last until all four lanes in the Marilao area have been reopened.
“In response to the call of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), NLEX Corporation will implement temporary toll relief on the northbound portion of the expressway from Balintawak to Meycauayan starting March 24, 2025 at 12 noon. This will remain in effect until all four lanes of the Marilao northbound area are reopened,” says NLEX Corp. in a statement.
This means that the PHP 79.00 Class 1 toll fee from Balintawak to Meycauayan (open system) is waived until all four lanes which were closed due to the incident in Marilao are reopened.
