You can now register your preferred RFID for use in all expressways
In January 2024, the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) announced its plan to achieve full interoperability between Autosweep and Easytrip RFIDs across all expressways by July of the same year. Once implemented, this would allow motorists to use a single RFID, either Autosweep or Easytrip, for seamless travel through both MPTC-operated and SMC Tollways-operated expressways, eliminating the need for multiple tags.
Now, after more than a year in limbo, the long-awaited “One RFID” system has finally become a reality.
In a ceremony led by the President, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., in Calamba, Laguna, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), together with the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) and RFID providers, officially launched the “One RFID, All Tollways” initiative today to mark a major step toward truly seamless and hassle-free travel across all expressways.
“Nakikinig tayo sa hinaing ng ating mga kababayan kaya naman nakahanap tayo ng magandang solusyon sa problema. Simula ngayon, iisang RFID stikcer na lang ang kailangan sa lahat ng toll expressways sa Luzon,” said the President.
(We’ve listened to the concerns of our fellow Filipinos, and we’ve found a good solution to the problem. Starting today, only one RFID sticker will be needed for all toll expressways in Luzon.)
No need for a new RFID
To enjoy the benefits of the One RFID, All Expressways program, motorists simply need to select which RFID—Autosweep or Easytrip—they want to keep active and complete the opt-in process, FREE of charge, through their chosen provider’s website. After registering, they can visit the provider’s customer service center to have the inactive RFID tag removed, or DIY. Drivers are also reminded to maintain sufficient load balance on their active RFID account to ensure seamless travel across all toll expressways in Luzon.
Headlight RFID “obsolete”
DOTr Acting Secretary, Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez, assured during the launching ceremony that the system has undergone rigorous testing before being implemented.
“May stress test na po ito. Ibig sabihin gumagana. Kung may small instance na problema, maaaring baka yung RFID natin defective o check nyo baka meron kayo negative balance,” said Lopez.
(This has already undergone a stress test, which means it’s working. If there are minor issues, it might be due to a defective RFID tag or possibly because your account has a negative balance.)
Speaking of defective RFID tag, the “headlight version,” which are the ones installed on motorcycles 400cc and above are “obsolete,” and could be the cause why some motorists are not being detected on the barriers, says Sec. Lopez.
“Ang ilalagay na One RFID ay sa likod ng windshield, sa loob na po. ‘Yung RFID sa headlights luma na at iyon ang reason why minsan ang barrier natatagalan. So might as well take this opportunity to avail of One RFID at no cost to the motorists,” added Lopez.
(The new One RFID will be placed inside the vehicle, behind the windshield. The old RFID tags on the headlights are already outdated and are often the reason why barriers take time to lift. So, motorists are encouraged to take this opportunity to switch to the One RFID, free of charge.)
