Viral tricycle driver has no valid driver's license said QC traffic officials
Social media has evolved beyond a simple pastime for many Filipinos, becoming a platform where public concerns, including road safety issues, are increasingly brought to light. This was evident over the weekend after a video went viral showing a tricycle driver counterflowing through traffic along North Avenue, in front of SM North EDSA.
What drew widespread attention was not only the dangerous maneuver, but the driver’s apparent attitude, behaving as though he had an unquestionable right to use the road despite putting other motorists and his own passengers, if any, at risk.

The incident prompted swift reactions from authorities. Both the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Quezon City government expressed dismay after the video circulated online. Further aggravating the situation, it was later confirmed that the tricycle driver involved did not possess a valid driver’s license.
During the hearing conducted Quezon City’s Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD), the tricycle driver presented his account of the incident, after which authorities cited him for multiple violations. These included operating a tricycle on a national road in violation of the tricycle ban, breaching the conditions of his Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC)/Motorized Tricycle Operator’s Permit (MTOP), and driving without a valid driver’s license, or with an expired, delinquent, or invalid license.

Representatives from the LTO were also present to serve a Show Cause Order (SCO) to both the driver and his father. The tricycle unit involved remains impounded pending further proceedings.
