The 450 AMT by QJ Motor

Clutchless motorcycles, while not entirely novel, have already found a presence in the Philippine market through models from established manufacturers like Honda and BMW Motorrad, often utilizing technologies like Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) or similar automated systems for smoother and worry-free gear changes during riding. Now, Chinese manufacturer QJ Motor is also venturing into this arena, expressing its intent to explore the potential of its own clutchless technology with the introduction of its 450 AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) sportbike.

No clutch, no shifter

The 450 AMT (marketed as the SRK R in other regions) aims to blend the engaging experience of sportbike riding with the ease of clutchless operation, much like a scooter. This innovative motorcycle eliminates the traditional clutch lever and foot brake, offering a unique riding interface.

To clarify the braking controls, the 450 AMT (again) adopts a scooter-like configuration: the left handlebar lever activates the rear brake, and the right lever engages the front brake. Besides the brake controls, the left and right handlebars also house the bike’s “paddle shifters”, letting the rider choose between riding full auto or manual.

At the heart of the 450 AMT is a parallel-twin, liquid-cooled 449cc engine claimed to be capable of churning up to 53 PS at 9,500 rpm and 43 nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. Other features include USD forks, double disc brakes for the front, Nissin calipers, “Pro-Arm” swing arm, sporty exhaust, TFT screen, alloy wheels, and many more.

PH availability

While QJ Motor Philippines could be among the first to introduce such clutchless technology to the local market, the company indicates its current focus lies elsewhere. However, the potential for the 450 AMT to become a hit remains, particularly if its pricing aligns with the affordability of many Filipino riders.
