SMC updates speed limit along Skyway Stage 3 and NAIAX
There’s a bit of confusion last week along NAIAX, as 80 km/h speed limit signs were erected. As it turns out, those signs were supposed to be covered until an official announcement from SMC Infrastructure Tollways is out.
Today, SMC has announced that a new 80 km/h speed limit will be implemented along the stretch of Skyway Stage 3 – from Buendia to NLEX Balintawak and vice versa – and NAIAX.
According to San Miguel Corporation President and CEO, Ramon S. Ang (RSA), the increase in speed limit was done to make travel faster and more efficient on these elevated expressways. On the curved portions of Skyway Stage 3 and NAIAX, however, a 60 km/h speed limit will be enforced for safety reasons.
“This is to maintain safety, as we do not want to put any motorists at risk of accidents due to miscalculation or oversteering, especially where there are sharp curves, given the limitations to the design of both the NAIAX and Skyway 3,” said RSA.
The effectivity date of the new 80 km/h speed limit on Skyway Stage 3 will be on January 20th, while NAIAX will implement the new speed limit earlier on January 15th.
On both expressways, SMC traffic enforcers will be equipped with speed guns (radar) to monitor the speed of motorists to ensure the safety of everyone.
