Toyota unveils Land Hopper e-trike, available in 2027

Toyota Motor Corporation has long been a household name for many Filipinos. Models like the Tamaraw became more than just vehicles; they became part of everyday Filipino life, ferrying families, hauling goods, and even driving loved ones to airports for emotional goodbyes as they leave the country to work abroad in search of a better future.

But among Toyota’s most legendary nameplates is the Toyota Land Cruiser, a vehicle that built its reputation on toughness, reliability, and the ability to go, quite literally, almost anywhere. Now, Toyota appears ready to bring that same rugged DNA to a smaller package.

Just recently, Toyota Japan unveiled the all-new Land Cruiser FJ series, a compact off-roader powered by a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine paired to a six-speed transmission. But what caught our attention was the introduction of a new lifestyle-oriented trike, along with the FJ, was the Land Hopper.

Toyota is targeting a Q2 2027 launch for the Land Hopper, which is a compact electric mobility concept designed to extend outdoor exploration beyond where larger vehicles can comfortably go.

Built for trails, forest routes, and mountain paths, the foldable three-wheeler is compact enough to fit inside a vehicle’s cargo area, allowing users to continue exploring once the road ends. Toyota describes it as a new form of mobility aimed at expanding outdoor and touring experiences.

The Land Hopper features a leaning three-wheel setup with dual front wheels designed to improve balance and maneuverability on uneven terrain. It also combines a low seat height, compact footprint, and foldable body for easier transport and storage.

Toyota has yet to release official technical specifications, including battery capacity, power output, driving range, charging time, and vehicle weight. However, based on its concept design and intended purpose, the Land Hopper is expected to function as a low-speed electric mobility vehicle focused on short-range outdoor exploration and last-mile mobility.

Let’s just hope the Land Hopper doesn’t end up costing as much as a clean second-hand Toyota FJ Cruiser.
