Funny teams names in FJMOTO Mountaincross ADV 3
The 3rd installment of the FJMOTO Mountaincross Adventure (FJMMA) concluded last week, with 300 real adventure riders taking on the brutal 3-day challenge around Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Cagayan, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Abra, and Ilocos Sur.
Aside from the hundreds of awesome stories of each rider and team, it is worth noting that the teams themselves have absorbed the laid-back and merry lifestyle of adventure riding. While some teams chose a more serious and professional-sounding name, others chose to name their teams with these ridiculous and funny names.
We list down some of the team names that joined this year’s FJMMA that we find funny and ridiculous.
TLR Malfunction
The TLR Malfunction is composed of members of The Long Riders who for the past 2 years had turned their back on their marshaling duties (of FJMMA) so that they could “compete” (translation: have fun) on the route.
Anyway, as I was told, the “malfunction” part came from the running gag within TLR that their more expensive adventure bikes – when ridden off-road – would immediately flash its check engine error, hence the malfunction. Also, since the team members all love their whiskey, they are often in a “malfunction” state during camping – in a positive and very funny way.
Alpha-Q
Remember the Pinoy alternative rock band Grin Department? Their songs usually feature lyrics that play on words and have double meanings.
In one of their meetings before FJMMA, Alpha-Q members were contemplating on what team name they should carry during the event over a bananaque – a popular Filipino snack.
Thinking they were alpha males, they then realized that they must first secure a “VISA” (riding permission) from their respective wives. So alpha male + banana-Q. One of the team members was also a former musician during his early years and may have been inspired by Grin Department’s double-meaning songs. Read this slowly: Al-pha-Q.
Hapipit
Hapit is a Filipino word that means constrict or tight. The team is tight-knit and has had excellent chemistry since the first FJMMA three years ago. But, behind the team’s name, it is a play of words of “happy feet”, hence, “Hapi-pit”.
The story goes that during one of the TLR’s whiskey-infused (and merry) outings, one member poured whiskey into a glass by flowing it through his foot. Now you know the story of Happy Feet a.k.a. Hapipit.
Mudder Packers
Like the band Grin Department, these guys like to play with words and double their meaning. They pack mud like any real MF’ng adventure rider.
According to Jet, one of the Mudder Packers, the group was formed 8 years ago and is composed of enthusiasts who love anything off-road like 4x4, motocross, and enduro. They are experts when it comes to slippery and muddy terrain. They are also seasoned hikers – backpacking their way to trails and mountain summits.
Mud + backpacking = Mudder Packers.
BOSS Amo
In the Philippines, when someone calls you “boss”, it is usually a sign of respect akin to “sir” in Western culture. Additionally, these guys are members of the exclusive BMW Owners Society of Saferiders (BOSS), which is also the group responsible for the successful BOSS Ironman Motorcycle Challenge.
Amo, on the other hand, means boss or employer. Basically, these guys are boss-boss (or maybe a higher level of boss/employer).
BOSS Budoleros
Budol is a Filipino word that means to swindle someone. In the off-road community, it means swindling someone into riding into the often hard and tiring off-road sections after telling him/her that the route is easy.
These guys are also members of BOSS and they love to budol unsuspecting riders into riding their big and heavy GS on hard trails.
BIIK
One might think that these guys are fat because biik literally means piglet. But, no, BIIK has a more positive and inspiring meaning.
BIIK stands for Buhay Ingatan, Ibigin Kalikasan which translates to "take care of life, love nature." But, like me and many adventure riders, these guys also love to eat.
