License plate check and claim for NCR units
Earlier in August, Land Transportation Office (LTO) Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II announced that the agency will be implementing the “No plate, No travel” soon for motor vehicles (MVs), as well as motorcycles (MCs) that were purchased brand new between January 1, 2023 up to present.
According to Mendoza, these MVs and MCs should already been issued with their assigned plates and should have “no reason why these have no license plates.”
While a lot of owners of both MV and MC were in uproar with the announcement, saying that no plates have been issued to their 2023-present vehicles, there is actually a way to check and see if a physical license plate was already issued – at least if your MV or MC was registered in National Capital Region (NCR).
How to: check plate availability
For those who have purchased their vehicle or motorcycle within Metro Manila, chances are, your dealer have registered it through the New Registration Unit (NRU) of LTO NCR in Quezon City, Las Pinas City, Mandaluyong City, and Muntinlupa City.
To check the license plate availability, go to www.ltoncr.com/brand-new-motor-vehicle-and-motorcycle/ and input the assigned plate number that can be found on the Certificate of Registration (CR).
After you input the assigned plate number, the LTO NCR website will confirm the plate number and classification, as well as provide the LTO NRU issuing office, name of dealer and the date when the plate was released to the dealer.
How to: claim plate number
If you are the owner, claiming your MV or MC’s license plate is pretty straight forward: go to the dealer, present an ID and sign their logbook or form confirming that you have claimed the license plate.
For those who can’t visit the dealer due to whatever reason to claim their license plate, or for those with an MV or MC that is not registered under their name, claiming the license plate from the dealer will require an additional authorization letter from the registered owner along with their ID and signature. If the MV or MC is registered under a company name, a copy of the Secretary’s Certificate will be required in addition to the company’s authorization letter to claim the license plate.
Again, this license plate check for availability and claiming is limited to brand new NCR-registered MVs and MCs only since the online portal is limited to LTO NCR only.
