Helmets you can buy under PHP 1,000

Since 2010, our country has a law that mandates all motorcycle drivers and passengers to wear a protective helmet that is specifically designed for motorcycle riding. This law is Republic Act (RA) 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act.

Unfortunately, 14 years after its enactment, there are still a lot of motorcycle riders who defy RA 10054, even with penalties that range from PHP 1,500 to PHP 10,000. One of the most common reasons these riders claim is that helmets are expensive and that they just don’t have enough money to buy one. To be honest, this reason is pure BS, given that many of these riders who continue to defy RA 10054 can afford to dress up their motorcycles with blings that cost a fortune.

Ok, let’s say that there are really individuals who can’t afford a nice branded helmet that have undergone safety standards testing, but did you know that there are helmets that are available for just under PHP 1,000?

Before we begin, I want to make it clear that this is not a paid promotion of the following inexpensive helmet brands, nor the online platform that they are sold from, but just to show that there is absolutely no reason for motorcycle riders to NOT have their protective helmets. Also, we at MotoPinas.com do not guarantee the safety ratings or the safety standards of these cheap helmets, as they only meet the bare minimum required by applicable Philippine laws.

The bottom line is that it is better to have some head protection from a motorcycle-specific helmet than no head protection at all whenever you hop on your motorcycle.

HNJ A4

HNJ helmets is one of the popular helmet brands here in the country. It is relatively cheap and its basic design also makes it one of the popular “free” helmets that dealers give away whenever you purchase a brand-new motorcycle. We saw an HNJ A4 sold in Lazada for just PHP 439.00 – or about the same price as 4 Jollibee Chicken Joy meals.

AXK 902 HUNTER

Full-face helmets still offer the most protection of any type of motorcycle helmet. One of the pretty decent models we saw was the AXK 902 Hunter, and it's only PHP 749.00. It has decent carbon fiber graphics and is equipped with a dual visor – no need to wear sunglasses when the sun is up.

Personally, I like my helmet simple and without graphics as much as possible. But, for those who want stylish and with comic-like graphics, then the HNJ 902 helmet is for you, and it retails for only PHP 799.00.

AXK 901

To those who are into retro stuff but are on a budget, AXK’s 901 retro-inspired full-face helmet might just be the right head protection for you. It boasts retro styling coupled with dual-visor technology so that you’ll never need to slide those sunglasses when the sun is up. It retails for only PHP 648.00.

RXR Child Helmet

Whenever I ride my scooter, I would always encounter a parent who’s transporting his/her child to school. Nothing wrong with this, but what irks me is that the parent driving the motorcycle almost always had their helmet on while the small child (who can barely grab his/her parent’s waist) is not wearing any head protection at all.

One of the reasons (maybe) is that an adult helmet is just too large to fit snugly on a child’s head. But don’t worry, RXR Helmets actually sells helmets that are specifically for children (and with lovely anime graphics). This one, for example, is sold for only PHP 639.00.

The helmet models above only represent what I think will give you the best value for your money under PHP 1,000. There are tons of helmet brands and models to choose from Lazada or similar online platforms and it is up to you to select depending on your style and budget. Just ensure that the helmet you'll buy complies with RA 10054.

Your (and your pillion's) safety is your responsibility as a motorcycle rider. You are better off with these relatively cheap helmets than NOT wearing any motorcycle riding-specific head protection at all.
