Husqvarna to shut down US Factory SMX team after 2026 racing season
We all know that KTM — the parent company of Husqvarna — was pulled back from the brink by India’s Bajaj Auto and is now undergoing a recovery phase. With their Indian masters taking the driver’s seat, changes were expected, particularly in the areas of efficiency and cost reduction. In fact, Bajaj executives had already announced plans to cut spending by as much as 50%.
Now, one of those cost-cutting measures is beginning to surface, as Husqvarna confirmed that its US Factory Motocross (MX) and Supercross (SMX) teams will be discontinued at the end of the 2026 racing season.
“From 2027 onward, the brand will transition away from operating an in-house factory racing team and instead, support independent teams and riders with factory level materials and technical expertise for the SMX series. This evolution ensures the brand’s presence in racing at the highest level, while repositioning its focus on the brand’s heritage and wider riding community,” said Husqvarna Mobility in a statement.
For 2027, Husqvarna Mobility will realign its strategy in the North American market as it aims to further strengthen its identity across its motocross, enduro, adventure, naked, supermoto, and electric motorcycle lineup. The company said its influence goes beyond professional motocross and stadium racing, and its broader connection with riders through off-road, adventure, commuting, and touring motorcycles is backed by more than 120 years of heritage and innovation.
As part of the transition, Husqvarna says it will introduce an engine leasing program in North America, allowing select teams and riders access to factory-level engines and suspension components. The move will enable the brand to maintain a presence in SMX competition while continuing its involvement in motorsports.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing will remain active through the rest of the 2026 season, including the AMA Supercross Championship finals, Pro Motocross Championship, and SMX postseason.
