The BMW R 12 G/S might have already landed in the PH
BMW Motorrad pays homage to the legendary R 80 G/S—the model widely credited with launching the adventure bike segment—with the all-new R 12 G/S. Local BMW fans have been eagerly awaiting this modern re-imagining, which leans heavily toward true enduro-adventure riding, thanks to its 21/18-inch wheel setup and the proven 1,170cc air- and oil-cooled boxer engine.
Recently, the online buzz went into overdrive after BMW Motorrad Director Archie Garcia shared photos of ultra-billionaire Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala receiving a special “BMW delivery,” complete with a personalized helmet gifted by BMW PH boss himself, Jacob Ang. Naturally, fans are now asking: is the R 12 G/S already here in the Philippines?

What government docs say
Apparently, government regulators received BMW Motorrad PH’s conformity application back in December, and it was approved just a few days ago. This certification confirms that a new vehicle model complies with government regulatory requirements and is now cleared for showroom sale.
The government documents indicate an application from BMW Motorrad PH for a motorcycle powered by a 1,170cc engine. At present, the only new and widely talked-about BMW motorcycle using that engine is the R 12 G/S.
If this assumption is correct, there’s a strong possibility that the R 12 G/S is already somewhere in Mr. RSA’s warehouses, simply waiting for the right moment to be unveiled to loyal BMW riders. Perhaps at the 2026 MAKINA Moto Expo? Or maybe as a surprise launch at the FJMOTO Mountaincross Rally Mindanao?
That said, there’s also a chance we’re reading too much into it. With strong demand from overseas markets, particularly the US, Europe, and Australia, the R 12 G/S’ Philippine arrival could still be months away. The newly approved model in government records may instead be another R 12 nineT variant, possibly with updated colors or options.
Either way, 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the motorcycle industry.
