KTM may name its official PH distributor soon

Much speculation has surrounded the question of who will take over as the new “KTM PH.” The situation was complicated by KTM’s recent history: the Austrian brand was effectively rescued from bankruptcy when Bajaj poured in more than half a billion euros, giving the Indian company controlling ownership and a decisive role in KTM’s future.

In the local scene, Lucky MAPI had been working aggressively to rebuild KTM’s presence after inheriting the brand from the Ayala-led Adventure Cycle Philippines, Inc. about a year ago. But KTM’s deep financial woes and sudden takeover by its new master abruptly shifted the playing field.

The fallout was immediate, and Lucky MAPI’s distribution rights were not renewed, expiring on September 30, 2025, and effectively cutting short what was meant to be a long-term push to grow the Austrian brand in the country. On October 1st, Lucky MAPI’s showrooms have gone silent, with no brand-new KTM motorcycles rolling out their doors. But, as mentioned before by Lucky MAPI themselves, KTM will be here to stay.

Bajaj PH = KTM PH?

We at MotoPinas.com have been persistent in pressing TriMotors Technology Corporation, a.k.a. Bajaj Philippines, for answers on who will take the reins as KTM PH. The silence is telling. After all, if you were the Indian principal that now holds the keys to the Austrian brand, wouldn’t it make sense to hand the franchise to your very own namesake company? Bajaj PH currently dominates the country’s three-wheeler (tuk-tuk) market, catering primarily to last-mile commuters and small businesses that rely on affordable and efficient transport solutions.

Recently, Bajaj PH reached out, asking if we were free for a press conference sometime this October. Now, Bajaj isn’t exactly known for holding grand press events, so this sudden invite immediately raised eyebrows. Could this be the moment everyone in the industry has been waiting for? The official word on KTM’s future in the country?

Without sugar-coating the million-peso question, we asked: “Is this it? Bajaj PH = KTM PH?”

Their reply was cryptic at best: “Once [we] send the invitation, you will already know what it is.” If that isn’t a telltale sign of something seismic, we don’t know what is. But, as they say, nothing’s carved in stone just yet. Only time will tell, and the new KTM PH will reveal itself in the spotlight.
